How the Eye Works
The eyes let us see by detecting and focusing light.
Light from an object enters the eye through the cornea and pupil, then passes through the lens, which adjusts to focus the light on the retina. The retina has cells called rods and cones that convert light into signals. Rods help us see shapes and shades of gray, while cones detect colors. These signals travel through the optic nerve to the brain, creating an image.
